Link-History and Records To Be Broken

Packers Safety Xavier McKinney has had a hot start to the 2024 football season with interceptions in the first 4 games this season. Apparently, he can chase down some old records set by the forgotten Ojay Larson an entire century ago. Pro Football Journal posted a really good article about this which I'll link right here: https://nflfootballjournal.blogspot.com/2024/10/a-century-apart-xavier-mckinney-and.html

I was unaware of the success Xavier McKinney has been having to start this season and really it has come from the blind eye that I turned to him. Here's why: after being drafted 36th overall and being in my opinion probably the best young safety at the time; I expected him to come out his rookie season hot playing at a high level. He ended up only playing in 6 games his rookie season having a very average rookie season with 1 interception and 25 tackles. Which is ok considering he was a rookie, he followed up with an amazing sophomore season totaling 5 interception and 93 tackles. However he followed up the amazing sophomore campaign by only playing in 9 games where he racked up only 45 tackles and 0 interceptions. The games missed was due to a hand injury suffered on an ATV which was really tough on him I'm sure. He followed all that up with a stellar 4th year putting himself at the top of the list for safeties in the NFL and has even found himself performing at an insanely high level through just 4 games this season. The reason a blind eye was turned is for 1. he was playing with the Giants who don't usually have much success or media coverage and 2. He was very up and down to start his career because he would follow up an average or below average season with an all-pro type of year and granted he faced an injury that held him out his 3rd season but, the inconsistency through an entire season can make people forget about the play making capability that a player has. But he has put himself on the map with his outing last season and starting this season the way he has is putting his name in the conversation of Best NFL Safety right now. Pro Football Journal had a really good article and I suggest you go over and read it considering the possible record to be broken by McKinney.
