Way Too Early Predictions
Who doesn't love a good prediction for the rest of the NFL season after only 4 games. While it is too early with 13 weeks left in the NFL season we can't be so sure about predictions but, we have learned a lot and teams have started to show their true colors. While things will obviously change that doesn't stop us from predicting so let's get into it.
Who else to talk about other than America's team The Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys in my opinion have not changed much since last season or for the last few years for that matter. They still seem to look like the team that beats up on lesser opponents and really struggles against strong contenders in the league. The Cowboys have been a team that racks up regular season games with electric wins and primetime nail biters leaving fans with the impression that they can make a playoff run for the Super Bowl. However, once the playoffs start they can never get it done and actually struggle a lot for that matter. The reason I bring this all up is because it is really the standard for which we ought to assess them. They are a good team and through 4 games we have found them capable of winning- currently sitting at 2-2- but the question we ask when watching them is can they make it over the hump, can they beat contenders, and can they win in the playoffs this year. So, lets talk about why I say this. Week 1 versus the Browns seemingly an impressive win and in an especially dominant fashion. The win seemed to be a statement for them this season because many picked Cleveland to win due to the high expectations and preseason ranking saying Browns we're going to be real contenders. The reason it was a seemingly strong statement: for Dallas to go into a strong opponents home stadium and dominate them the way they did makes me think that Dallas might actually be able to beat good opponents. After letting the pot boil I am not very impressed with the win because Cleveland is now 1-3 and Dallas did to the struggling Browns what they do to every struggling team: win in dominant fashion. Then they go on to drop 2 in a row to likely Division Champs in the Saints and the Ravens. Not only did they lose to 2 teams we would've loved to see them beat, they were embarrassed by both of these teams on both sides of the ball. In week 4 they beat the Giants in primetime which doesn't come to a surprise because Dallas has basically owned the NFC East in head to head matchups for years now. So, that tells us they are likely still in control of the NFC East. After 4 weeks what have we taken away, that they can beat a struggling team in dominant fashion, control the NFC East and lose to teams that are expected to do well in the playoffs. This is why I am not high on the Cowboys when it comes to playoff and Super Bowl contenders. Don't get me wrong Dallas is a good team and I predict they'll go 11-6 winning the NFC East. That is by no means an easy accomplishment nor should it be undermined but The Cowboys look like the Cowboys for now.
